Requirements to enroll dependents

Note: You can enroll eligible dependents only during your change of coverage period. You can find more information here.

If you are enrolled in student benefits, you can enroll family members who are dependents. Your dependents could be:

Your spouse (a spouse must be a resident of Canada and either be married to the applicant or qualify as a spouse under Federal Common Law).
Your common-law (you must have cohabitated for at least 12 continuous months to meet the eligibility criteria).
Any dependent child(ren) (child(ren) must be under 21 years of age, or under 25 years old and attending post-secondary full-time, or mentally incapable of self-support).

The coverage for your dependents will stop at the end of the policy year after you are no longer considered a student. This fee is non-refundable.

Coverage and fees

Your dependents' coverage period will be the same as yours, depending on whether you started in the fall or winter.

If your program starts in the fall, your coverage period begins on September 1^st, 2024; however, if your program starts in the winter, your coverage period begins on January 1^st, 2025. In both cases, the coverage for you and your dependents will end on August 31^st, 2025.

Fall coverage: From September 1^st, 2024 to August 31^st, 2025
Winter coverage: From January 1^st, 2025 to August 31^st, 2025

Fees

To add the first (1) dependent on your plan, the total amount due for health and dental coverage would be half of the full cost per year.

Fall semester

Health - CAN$158.50/year
Dental - CAN$158.50/year

Winter semester:

Health - CAN$104.61/year
Dental - CAN$158.50/year

To enroll an additional dependent (a second, third, and so on), the total amount due for health and dental coverage would be the full yearly cost.

Fall semester:

Health - CAN$317 /year
Dental - CAN$317 /year

Winter semester:

Health - CAN$209.22/year
Dental - CAN$317.00/year

Note: Dependents are not covered for Travel or Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D).

You understand that coverage will only be provided if the application is submitted and that the appropriate payment is made by the set deadline. Submission of this application confirms that the individual for whom the application is being processed for is qualified under the definition of spouse or dependent. For this application, a spouse must be a resident of Canada and either married to the applicant or qualify as a spouse under Federal Common Law.
