Health practitioners

As a student with access to the health plan, you can access various practitioners to support your health and wellness. These are the services and coverage included in your plan:

  • Chiropractor (maximum $300 combined)
  • Naturopath (maximum $300 combined)
  • Osteopath (maximum $300 combined)
  • Physiotherapist (maximum $300 combined)
  • Podiatrist/Chiropodist (maximum $300 combined)
  • Registered Massage Therapy (maximum $300 combined)

  • Psychologist, Social Worker, Clinical Counsellor ($500 per policy year for all practitioners combined Covered at 100%)

Drugs coverage

Your plan provides coverage for prescription drugs up to 80%, with a maximum limit of $3,000, bring your benefits card to your pharmacy to access your drug coverage benefits.

Emergency services

Your plan includes emergency services like ambulance and emergency travel.

Specialty drugs

By enrolling in the benefits plan, you can access specialty drugs. However, these drugs are only available to those who meet certain eligibility criteria.

To access specialty drugs, you must:

  1. Visit the TELUS Health Prior Authorization Portal (external link).
  2. Enter your carrier number (find it in your student benefits e-card).
  3. Enter your group plan number (find it in your student benefits e-card).
  4. Find the drug you are looking for on the list.
  5. Print the form and follow the instructions to fill out, sign it and submit it through the StudyWell App.
  6. You will receive a communication letting you know if you can have the drug or not within two weeks.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

The Students' Association of Portage College (SAPC) benefit plan provides coverage for losses caused by accidents, such as the loss of life, a limb, or paralysis. Coverage is also included for losses to replace damaged equipment, such as a laptop or cell phone involved in the accident. Please get in touch with our member support services for more information.

Your dental benefits

Your dental plan can help you save money on routine or emergency visits to the dentist. It covers a portion or all costs associated with your visit.

Your annual maximum overall dental care coverage is $750. Keep in mind that there are individual co-payment limits as follows:

  • Basic Services Diagnostic & Preventative - 90% coverage
  • Minor Restorative Fillings - 70% coverage
  • Endodontic & Periodontic - 50% coverage
  • Extractions & Oral Surgery - 50% coverage

Your vision benefits

For Vision Care there will be a maximum overall 24 months period for you to use this service.

  • Eye Exams - $60 covered every 2 years
  • Eyeglasses/Frames or Contact Lenses - $100

Note: Any reimbursement for eyeglasses/frames or contact lenses must include a prescription from a registered provider (optometrist), who often follows the eye exam.

During the change of coverage period (from the week before to the second Friday after), you can update your school's default enrollment by filling out the corresponding form to opt out, enroll dependents, or opt (back) in. If you enroll in the fall semester, your benefits coverage will start on September 1st and continue until August 31st. For the winter semester, the coverage begins on January 1st and continues until August 31st. You can find more information about the change of coverage period here.
